“If there are no dogs in Heaven,
then when I die I want to go
where they went.”
Will Rogers, 1897-1935
Jan (Dutch showchampion Kayleigh’s Eagle Heart, Winster 1997) was born on October 28, 1994, in a nest of eight from the first litter of our dear Scott, Jan has meant a lot to us. Until the last moment Jan stood fully in life. She has been in the show ring – became Dutch champion and won the Winster title in 1997 – has teamed up with Mark herding and above all was a sweet cuddly dog. But in our pack the leader until the last moment where a dog that was rude to her or grumpy could get a snarl. There was no run over her!
More than 17 years we have shared joys and sorrows, but then comes the moment you have to make the decision …. Jan had enough and refused any type of food that we offered her. With much sadness in our hearts, we had to bid farewell to our ‘campione’.
We know that she is now without pain and that she has received some well deserved rest. Goodbuye dear Jan, we miss you very much and hope when the time comes, we will see you again in some way.
The dogs who’ve shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a barking at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometime, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them…
and always will.
